Expect the Real

Alex Jimenez Season 3 Episode 20

What is it you expect from people, particularly people who provide their services to you? Are your expectations aligned with the reality of the situation? Are they exaggerated or fall short in your mind based on the possibility and actuality of what you should expect? Is the expectation that has been set something you decided to create yourself or something the provider has assured to be expected when you choose them to do business with? When these expectations aren't met, do you automatically attack these shortfalls with personal levels of frustration?

What if you could approach the situation with an air of professionalism and calm sincerity in order to gain the level of service you were expecting in the first place? Without place the person in a defensive stance, you will find yourself and your desired outcome much more agreeable. You have to remind yourself to only hold a business to the standard they have represented overall as a brand though. You cannot demand what a company doesn't already promise though.

The same should hold true to you if you are a service provider. Give yourself the cushion of time you need in order to deliver your goods on time or sooner, but never late. That is a recipe for disappointment in the client and, ultimately, dishonesty in your brand. Even within your personal life you have to set realistic expectations with your family and friends that they can trust and rely on you.
